Wi-Fi

I’m arriving at a retreat center at the edge of the mountains on a lonely saltwater bay on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

It is quiet and peaceful here.

I’ve arrived early and intend to stay for a full week.

It is Sunday morning, and the folks who were here over the weekend are packing and getting ready to return to their homes.

I had intended to do some work during our breaks while here at the retreat center but am miffed to see that there is no Wi-Fi here.

I ask a young blond woman who flew in from Los Angeles the previous week how one can get Wi-Fi here. She smiles sweetly at me and says, “The Wi-Fi here is actually much better than anything in Los Angeles. Even better than the Wi-Fi at LAX”!

Another young woman with brown hair, a lean build and a flowered print top and matching skirt overhears us and says, “It’s true! It’s awesome here!”

I still can’t get anything on my phone or notebook PC. There does not appear to be any Wi-Fi service anywhere here.

But I stay for a full week and discover an inner Wi-Fi that is indeed better than any of my electronic devices.

Today I promise to periodically turn off all my electronic devices and just listen. Really listen. Someone or something may be trying to communicate with me. The signal may be faint and subtle, but I find that if I am still and quiet, the message will be received. It may be communicated to me as a vision, or a voice, or a feeling or a knowing. It may even feel like a communion of sorts – a beautiful telepathic rapport that feels like a rare and blessed intimacy.
